"A visual documentation of the unspoken"

"The works for the Gail Severn Gallery represent my on going observation of strangers around me. I catch people that are in a private place; that are turned within. It is fleeting, but I enjoy catching people in the process of doing just that. It is something that we all do and unconsciously. The figures in my work are involved in their daily tasks that are familiar to us all. It is a universal thing that when our hands are busy our minds can wonder. It's a delicious sensation when we can stop paying attention. We go on auto-pilot and the moments that we are afforded to just wander is fleeting but repeated endlessly throughout the day. If someone asked us what we are thinking about, we really couldn't say but somehow it is relieving. I try and capture what all that feels like. The safety, the relaxation, the intimacy, and the fact that it's a subconscious decision makes it even more fascinating. Our minds need a break and it takes the body with it. I paint all of that.

The poses and gestures tell me so much and I feel it within myself. These moments in time resonate with me and by painting the feeling I experience; I get to feel it again and again."
