Jenny Honnert Abell
Artist Statement
Life is uncertain. We face difficult trials and obstacles that present us with opportunity. We are tested continuously. Through my work I have found this chaos can be deflected by an escape into the plethora of magnificent offerings available all around me every day. Such gifts as remarkable beauty, human generosity, written wisdom, material abundance, ingenious invention, curiosity, keen observation, creativity and lofty imagination, are all unlimited in their quantities and sources. These daily influences and activities coupled with an imbedded memory of opulent illustrations from a childhood fairytale book, have cemented my need to create fantastic imagery that can tackle my own demons and challenges in life. While it is my foremost intention to construct work that is immediately pleasing, an element is always present identifying the underlying truth of unfairness and inequality in life that touches us all. This fact is illustrated by quietly suggesting a degree of discomfort. The coexistence of beauty and adversity in my work presents an honesty that gives us a place to find strength from which we can prevail.
